How a Ball of Wool Becomes a Cat Cave

Six hours, warm water, soap and a pair of very patient hands. This is the quiet, physical process behind one of our most-loved pieces — a cozy little world made entirely from wool.
It Begins With Wool
Every cat cave starts as raw, unspun sheep's wool — carded loose and soft, with none of the structure it will eventually hold.
No two balls of wool felt exactly the same way, which is where the first hint of each cave's character comes from.
Layer by Layer
Thin layers of wool are laid crosswise over a resist form, again and again, building up the wall of the cave one sheet at a time.
Get the layering wrong and the cave won't hold its shape later — this step is where an artisan's experience really shows.
When Wool Becomes Felt
Warm water and soap are worked into the layered wool by hand, over and over, until the fibres tangle together and lock into a single, solid fabric.
Then it becomes a cave — shaped over a form while still damp, and left to dry into its final curve.

Why Every Cave Is Different
The exact shrinkage, curve and thickness of wet-felted wool can't be fully controlled — only guided. That's why no two cat caves, even from the same batch, come out quite the same.
Yours will have its own small variations. Consider them a signature, not a flaw.
